Import-Export Buyer

Position Overview

Responsible for running the company’s import-export buying department, while maintaining and upholding the current import and export laws and tariffs pertaining to the United States and China. Also responsible for working directly with domestic and offshore production facilities and buying agents, customs officials, and freight forwarders. Finally, ensure the most reliable, cost effective and timely delivery of finished goods from point of origin to final destination.

Essential Job Functions

• Examine the invoices and shipping manifests for conformity to tariffs and customer regulations
• Coordinate all inbound shipments, examine booking and arrival notices
• Vendor relations to include selection, negotiation, communication, and partnership development
• Vendor compliance monitoring and development of import quality standards
• Analyze, forecast, and interpret market and consumer trends
• Product selection and development of private label goods, both for initial and special buy quantities
• Ensure the most reliable, cost effective and timely delivery of finished goods from point of origin to final destination
• Prepare purchase orders and work closely with the manufacturer to monitor the product flow.
• Coordinate the amount of product coming from the plants with the amount of product that has to be delivered to the customers
• Answer all incoming calls and assist customers with placing orders, product inquiries, returns, samples and other related issues
• Enter sales orders (customer purchases) and purchase orders (company purchases)
• Generate and maintain weekly backorder reports to ensure timely deliveries of orders
• Assist with various marketing projects as needed
• Post invoices into system for payment

Non-essential Job Functions

• Be the liaison between sales, marketing, engineering and management
• Provide a purchase plan to suppliers on a monthly basis
• Maintain current list of vendors and contact information
• Troubleshoot material shortages
• Source new materials and suppliers

Requirements

• Must be fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese
• 3-5 years experience working as a buyer in the import /export field
• Solid working knowledge of import laws and regulations to ensure full compliance with legal/governmental requirements
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to supervise and establish strong working relationships with internal and external resources is required

Other Skills/Abilities

• Proficient in the Microsoft Suite
• Excellent communication and negotiating skills
• Ability to work well in a team
• Ability to relate to other employees in an business manner and to interact appropriately with the public
